Are these women's self-defense classes beginner friendly?

Yes! Almost all of our students had no experience at first. Yet with dedication and women’s self-defense training, they’ve become amazing athletes. We’ll help you get there too.

What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

When you first arrive at Pittman Jiu Jitsu of Lubbock – all you need are some comfy athletic clothes and a water bottle. We’ve got the rest covered.

You might be nervous about your first class. That’s perfectly normal! As soon as you see how kind and welcome the instructors and other students are – that nervousness turns into excitement.

I’m not very athletic, will I feel left out?

No matter your fitness level, you can train here. It’s a group environment, but every one of us is on our own unique journey. You can go at your own pace. Some advance faster, others slower. That’s okay.

What’s important is that you’re having fun, challenging yourself, making friends, and growing stronger inside and out.

The coordination, strength, and speed comes with time – even in those who are not ‘natural athletes’!

Will women's self-defense help with ADD/ADHD?

Absolutely. While there is no ‘cure’ for ADD or ADHD, it can be managed. Our Lubbock women’s self-defense classes help you develop the tools you need to maintain focus & concentration. It is especially helpful when you’re trying to do multiple tasks that divide your attention. Through following instructors, Lubbock women’s self-defense techniques, and mastering moves, adults develop tools to stay focused and on track.

I have a lot of pain, limited range of motion and mobility – is women's self-defense right for me?

Our women’s self-defense instructors are caring and attentive to every student’s concerns. Suffering from lower back pain, neck & shoulder pain, joint stiffness, or muscle weakness will likely not prevent you from having a fun, fulfilling class.

We’re not medical professionals, so any serious concerns should be discussed with your doctor first– but we are typically able to give you alternate exercises that don’t affect pre-existing injuries and honor your limits so you still have a great experience.
